Course Itinerary
Evolution Guide School
Haida Gwaii

Day One
Our Haida Gwaii course begins in Sandspit, British Columbia.  Participants are picked up in the morning at Seaport B&B (or another Sandspit accommodation of your choice) for the one-hour van ride to Moresby Camp.  Here, you board a large Zodiac-style speedboat for transport to the southern tip of the archipelago.

Around midday, you arrive at the tiny, isolated community of Rose Harbour to begin your kayak exploration.

Days Two to Six
The Evolution course explores a route similar to Butterfly Tours' Waters of SGang Gwaay trip.  When conditions permit, we venture towards the outer coast to gain valuable experience in more challenging marine environments such as swell, currents and surge.

The course provides numerous opportunities to develop skills through experiential learning.  During controlled simulations, participants experiment with a wide variety of guiding tools, leadership styles and paddling techniques.

We spend several days exploring the area while covering the many diverse topics listed in the curriculum.  During the course, we paddle offshore to Anthony Island and visit the ancient Haida village of SGang Gwaay (Ninstints).

Depending on weather and sea conditions, we may change campsites daily, or establish a few different base-camps during the trip.  Our small group size enables us to maintain a high degree of flexibility as each day unfolds.

Day Seven
After a week of paddling through the Gwaii Haanas wilderness, we return to Rose Harbour.  That afternoon, the speedboat arrives to transport the group to Sandspit.  Depending on conditions, the boat may pass through Burnaby Narrows.  At the end of the day, you are returned to Seaport B&B, or another Sandspit accommodation of your choice.

Routes and itineraries remain very flexible to accommodate changeable west coast conditions.  Alternate boat or floatplane transport may be substituted.
Four advance registrations are required in order to confirm the Haida Gwaii course.  If you are interested in this unique journey, please consider making reservations well in advance.
